Julia Popowitz

Julia is an active angel investor, investing in a wide range of companies across consumer and enterprise technology, including Ali Baba, Palantir, Survey Monkey, Locu, Spreecast, ZenPayroll, MindSnacks, Brit & Co., Automatic, Relay Rides (via acquisition of Wheelz), Modria, VoiceBase, Tynker and Playdom.

Julia began her career as a corporate attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich Rosati. In 2006, Julia joined Facebook as the second attorney in the legal department. From June 2006 until April 2011, Julia led Facebook's commercial transactions legal team, negotiating and executing a large number of business development, sales, vendor and other transaction deals that were strategic to Facebook's growth and development, including deals with Microsoft, Spotify, ABC/Disney, CNN, CBS, NBC, YouTube and more. Julia led a team from three to nine attorneys, oversaw Facebook's legal work related to its international expansion and operations, and worked on matters related to product and IP law. In her five years at Facebook, Julia was instrumental in scaling the legal team from two people to nearly 40, setting up departmental procedures and infrastructure, hiring and managing outside counsel.

Julia received her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1997, graduating cum laude, and her Bachelors of Arts from University of California, Berkeley, graduating magna cum laude and phi beta kappa with a degree in Political Science. She is a member of the State Bar of California.

In her free time, Julia is heavily involved at her kids' schools and volunteers at other community organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is currently co-chairing the annual auctions at Bing Nursery School and The Nueva School. Previously, she has sat on the boards of the Oshman Family JCC, Hebrew Free Loan Association, Hands on Bay Area and Selby Education Foundation, as well as volunteered with East Palo Alto High School, Rebuilding Together, the Jewish Federation and other organizations. She has biked from San Francisco to Los Angeles with the California AIDS Ride and has run the Honolulu Marathon with Team in Training.
