Joanna DRAKE

Joanna has been a builder and investor of next-generation technology companies for two decades. Throughout her career she has been a leader in socially responsible businesses and championing diverse teams.

Joanna is a Founder and Managing Director of Magnify Ventures, a venture capital fund launched in 2020 to partner with early stage entrepreneurs who are transforming how modern families and communities live, work and care for one another. Joanna began her investing career as a General Partner at Core Ventures Group, co-managing two funds and a portfolio of over twenty seed stage companies.

Joanna previously served as the Chief Operating Officer for DeNA West, where she oversaw operations outside of Asia for this leading Japanese public media company. For almost ten years prior, she was the Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Current TV, the fastest growing cable and satellite network in the history of the industry, where she was the first executive to join co-Founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt. Current TV was sold to Al Jazeera in 2013.

During the first wave of web start-ups in the late 90s, Joanna held executive positions at leading start-ups at the intersection of technology and media, including MOXI and ReacTV. She started her career as a Senior Associate in Booz Allen & Hamilton's media and technology consulting practices.

Joanna holds a Masters degree focused on Japanese business from Stanford University, and a BA in Political Economy from UC Berkeley.
